Kyle posthumously AwarDed his BaCHelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering From the University of Arkansas

Drawn to the beauty of the Ozark Mountains and the University of Arkansas’ campus, Kyle began his studies at the College of Engineering in 2010 and was three courses shy of receiving his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering when he took a break in 2014 to among other things, travel, work, volunteer, study literature, and become certified in swift water rescue and wilderness first response/EMT. Prior to passing away in 2017, Kyle had decided to return to school to complete his studies. Given that he was within one semester of graduating, Kyle’s mother asked the College of Engineering if he qualified to receive his degree posthumously. According to guidelines set forth by the University of Arkansas, the college confirmed that Kyle did qualify to receive his degree and planned to award his family Kyle’s diploma at their Spring 2020 commencement. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ceremonies were postponed to 2021, at which time his family travelled to Fayetteville to receive the degree Kyle worked so hard for. His family extends a huge thank you to The University of Arkansas College of Engineering for their help in making this dream come true.

The following are photos of Kyle’s family on the University of Arkansas’ campus on the day of his graduation, May 7, 2021, along with pictures taken of Kyle on campus in the fall of 2013. All but the first two photographs were taken by the incredibly talented and thoughtful photographer, Todd Moncrief, of Todd Moncrief Photography.

The following is a video of Kyle’s parents receiving Kyle’s diploma.

NOTE: The video will start as they begin to announce the posthumous degrees. Acknowledgement of Kyle will run from approximately 57:28 to 59:06.
